About
You know the line. Someone turns fifty, and somebody at the party says fifty is the new thirty. Everybody nods. Nobody checks the math. The sentence isn't a fact; it's a way of making a bigger number feel fine.
Prices do the same thing, just less politely. Whatever something cost last year looks cute next to what it costs now.
100isthenew50 is that idea with nothing else in the way. Every listing on the board is a number. To get above it, you pay a slightly bigger one. Taking #1 costs $5 more than whoever is there, which is about the price of a birthday card. There's no voting, no algorithm, no editors' picks and no review queue. A rank is a number, and the number is a price.
That makes the board honest in a strange way. You can see exactly what everyone paid, exactly what it would take to replace them, and exactly when somebody decided their product deserved one more candle.
